My Portfolio
Charlotte is a ceramic designer/maker based in the heart of Northamptonshire, UK, creating individually handmade one-off ceramic pieces from her studio at home. It is here that she enjoys spending time on new natural designs while listening to music and drinking tea!
"Having always been attracted to natural surroundings and organic surfaces, I am drawn to the textures within the world around us. My work explores the landscape and the detail of many different natural surfaces.
I find it amazing to see the changes in rocks and coves caused by weathering and erosion from the sea, bumpy and colourful linear patterns found within fields and hills, and the surfaces in nature where no two marks are ever the same – it is this particular aspect that my ceramics connects to."
Before constructing the ceramic forms, Charlotte produces mixed-media drawings and prints, which inform the surfaces of the clay. Her interest and passion for ceramics is growing rapidly the more she experiences new ideas, and for every piece of work that she makes. She am fascinated by the qualities of the material and likes to keep her work full of excitement. Charlotte relishes in constructing an object using her hands to thoroughly engage with what she is making.
Charlotte's work is fired in an electric kiln up to 1260°C and can be used for interior and exterior display or function. Pieces range from collections of vases, bowls, hanging plaques and wall pieces, coasters, clocks, ceramic art and small pieces such as magnets, brooches, plant markers, buttons.
Charlotte is a Small Business Sunday winner, as chosen by Theo Paphitis in 2011.
The signature element of incorporating glass into her work gives pieces another dimension and extra colour.
Enjoying any challenge, Charlotte loves to create special bespoke ceramic pieces and welcomes your ideas for personal commissions.
